Wealth managers from across Houston gathered last month at the Federal American Grill for our June Investment Strategy Salon Dinner, an evening that blended sophisticated cuisine with razor-sharp financial discourse. The intimate setting fostered candid, thought-provoking conversations, creating a perfect backdrop for professionals to share insights and explore cutting-edge strategies shaping the industry.
Our Featured Managers hosted conversations on the nuances of Opportunity Zone 2.0 reforms and hot locations, the role of real estate private debt in generating stable, risk adjusted returns, as well as innovative active ETF strategies, including volatility and return stacking (portable alpha). Attendees praised managers for sharing stories about unique investment opportunity zones for real estate development, commentary on private real estate debt and alternatives to fixed income that still retain a high quality, and insights on equity and hedge volatility and the allure of a non-traditional asset not correlated to the rest of the market.
As is typical, our guests drove the conversations about the hottest topics at hand. “In general we believe in diversification, more so today as the US has drastically outperformed global markets, especially the SP500. Thus, interest in international equities, private markets, digital assets,” said one wealth manager looking for forward opportunities. Following an informed discussion of market trends, another manager came away with a renewed interest in fixed income alternatives and growth strategies with downside protection. Even discussions of the AUM of groups’ most popular strategies and the sizes of their teams helped to leave attendees even better informed about the industry landscape and poised to better serve their clients and firms.
Practice management was also a hot topic, with artificial intelligence gaining some attention as a new tool. “Our team is looking at AI across markets and folding it into our daily processes,” another wealth manager said. One attendee found return stacking particularly compelling, noting that it allows managers to “have their cake and eat it too” by including gold and crypto without giving up more traditional investments.
